Del Mar Race Track: Opening Day Events!

Del Mar Opening DayNow that Fourth of July has come and gone, it’s time to gear up for the next big July event in San Diego: Opening Day at the Del Mar Race Track!  On July 17 more than 45,000 fans will gather where the surf meets the turf for a day of big betting, big fashion, big hats, and big fun.

Tickets for the Clubhouse ($20) and Stretch Run ($10) are still available.  The party starts at 11:30 a.m. and the first race is at 2:00 p.m.

While the races are an event in and of itself, the highlight of the day for many people are the AFTER PARTIES.  In fact, many locals skip the races altogether and just hit one of the stylish evening soirees.  Whether you will be spending the day at the track or not, here are our picks for the top three Opening Day at the Races After Party.

1.  The Scene.   L’Auberge Del Mar puts the “party” in “after party.”  Crowd in with hundreds of race fans all dressed up and ready to get down on L’Auberge’s beautiful  terraces with fabulous ocean views rivaled only by the outstanding people watching.

2.  The Swank.  Stylish fans flock to the luxurious Rancho Valencia to sip crafty cocktails, savor culinary nibbles and enjoy live entertainment on the fabulous patio.

$200  5 p.m. – 8 p.m.  5921 Valencia Circle

3.  The Spot.   Also celebrating “opening day” is the highly anticipated new hot spot: Searsucker Del Mar. To showcase Chef Malarkey’s culinary talents, Searsucker is  serving up a special opening day four course pre-fix dinner menu that looks  Reservations for dinner are required but the bar will be open for   race fans at 4:30 p.m.
