Mark Your Calendars … Must do events in Reno/Tahoe

Spring into these Reno/Tahoe events. From Mother’s and Father’s day festivities to festivals, celebrity golf and more, here’s a list of my favorite events you should add to your itinerary!

April 28 – 30: Genoa Cowboy Festival (Genoa)

Saddle up and visit Nevada’s oldest settlement during the Genoa Cowboy Festival,. Celebrate with Western music, cowboy poetry and Western culture during this three-day festival. Enjoy dinners, galleries and workshops to gain an appreciation for this important heritage.

May 5: Cinco De Mayo (Reno, South Lake Tahoe)

Fiesta! Fiesta! Celebrate Cinco De Mayo eating, drinking and dancing in Reno/Tahoe. New in Circus Circus Reno Hotel and Casino is El Jefe’s Cantina. The atmosphere and new menu is absolutely delicious! Then head to South Lake Tahoe to dance the night away at Cabo Wabo inside Harrahs Lake Tahoe. They have live music, great drinks specials and authentic Mexican food!;

May 11 – 20: Women’s Amgen Tour of California (South Lake Tahoe)

Some of the world’s top cycling athletes will bike their way around Lake Tahoe for two stages of the Women’s Amgen Tour of California. Lake Tahoe is one of 14 host cities and is excited to welcome thousands of cycling fans making up their global audience. The start and finish lines for both stages take place at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Main Lodge, and there will be plenty of celebrations planned for both the beginning and finish- of this elite event.;

May 13 – 14, Mother’s Day (Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Reno)
Scenic train ride

Treat your mom to a special Mother’s Day train ride with V&T Railroad. Every mom receives a long-stemmed red rose. There are many spectacular sceneries and a day with the family makes for a memorable celebration for Mother’s Day.

Shop ‘til you drop

Shopping is always a fun adventure, especially while enjoying the beautiful outdoors. The Village Center in South Lake Tahoe is an outdoor shopping mecca that has a variety of unique shops that mom will love! There is also the Riverwalk District along the Truckee River and the Midtown District in Reno with an assortment of shops. Eat, shop, relax and indulge with your mom for her special day.;;

May 29, Memorial Day (Reno)

Come out to Wild Island Family Adventure Park in Reno! It’s officially open as of Memorial Day weekend. There is something fun for all ages including those over 21. So grab your towel and sunscreen, and have some fun in the sun!

June 8 – August 17: Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival (South Lake Tahoe)

Enjoy one of the most scenic venues of beautiful Lake Tahoe while watching two extraordinary productions, Love’s Labour’s Lost and The Hound of the Baskervilles. Imagine your toes in the sand, a bottle of wine, delicious food options and a Lake Tahoe sunset as your backdrop. The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is truly extraordinary entertainment in an exceptional setting. For the schedule and tickets visit their website.

June 15 – 24, Reno Rodeo (Reno)

Kick the dust up at the annual Reno Rodeo, a.k.a. the “wildest, richest rodeo in the west.” This 10-day event brings in over 140,000+ fans! See real-life cowboys and cowgirls take part in bull riding, professional roping and more action-packed events. Plus, you can enjoy live music, food, vendors, a carnival and theme nights. But don’t let the party end there, if you are 21+ years old, continue the country night at the Jack Tent!

June 16 – 17 : The Great Eldorado BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival (Reno)

Fire up the grills, tap the kegs and crank up the tunes for Reno’s best summer kick off party! The BBQ, Brews and Blues Festival has mouthwatering barbeque, microbrew tastings with more than 40 microbrews from around the world, and a two-stage music festival featuring nonstop rock and blues.

June 17: Rock Tahoe Half Marathon (South Lake Tahoe)

“Run. Rock. Recover.” This is exactly what you’ll be doing when you register for the Rock Tahoe Half Marathon! Run along the scenic east shoreline of Lake Tahoe through Cave Rock across beautiful beaches and through the meadows. At the finish line, untie those shoelaces and recharge at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s awesome after party!;

June 18: Father’s Day (Carson Valley, South Lake Tahoe)
Just Go Fishin’

Plan a getaway weekend to Carson Valley to enjoy some fishing with dad for Father’s Day. There are guided tours that will make your trip much more successful! Not only will you learn from the best, they will teach you the proper way to fish in these lakes and rivers. Or if lake fishing is more your style, “get hooked” with Tahoe Sportfishing Co. Their experienced captains will guide you to the hot spots on Lake Tahoe. Depending on the season, you can catch mackinaw, rainbow trout, brown trout and kokanee salmon.;

July 1 – 31: Artown (Reno)

Artown is a unique arts and culture festival taking place in Reno during the whole month of July. This celebration features over 500 events including music, dance, theater, visual arts, workshops, art walks and so much more! A majority of the events are free to the public and they are all family friendly.

July 1 – 4: Independence Day (South Lake Tahoe, Genoa)
Cruise Lake Tahoe

Enjoy a delicious dinner cruise aboard Zephyr Cove’s MS Dixie II along with a fireworks show on July 4th. It’s one of the best ways to experience Lake Tahoe and get front row seats to the fireworks that are set off in the middle of the lake.

Red, white, Tahoe Blue

The 11th Anniversary of the Red, White and Tahoe Blue Celebration is July 1 – 4. This four-day event includes the annual veterans recognition, pancake breakfast, parade, rubber duck races, ice cream eating contest and, of course, the amazing fireworks display!

Parade with Genoa

Celebrate the Fourth of July at an event the whole family can enjoy. The Genoa Americana July 4th Celebration has children’s games, barbeque chicken, live music, a parade and more! They will conclude with a performance by the Carson Symphony Orchestra.

July 11 – 14: Tahoe Celebrity Golf Week (South Lake Tahoe)

Watch celebrity athletes tee off at the annual American Century Championship at the beautiful Edgewood Golf Course. Previous big names include Aaron Rodgers, Charles Barkley and Justin Timberlake! Plus, a portion of the funds raised will benefit numerous charities and organizations. Now that’s a hole in one!
