Beer, scratch kitchen, and bowling…Oh My! If gourmet food, specialty cocktails and twelve upscale bowling lanes sounds like your idea of fun, then Tavern+Bowl should be right up your alley.
Tavern+Bowl is located in East Lake, North County, and East Village off Market Street. I visited the East Village location and was pleasantly surprised by just how much this establishment offers its patrons.
I walked in and found the sheer size of the restaurant was much larger than I expected. When you think of the word “tavern” you probably think of a small dining area with a dinky bar and a fireplace glowing softly in the corner. That’s not the case here; in fact, it’s quite the opposite.
The high ceilings, long bar, open patio, and upper level dining area provide ample room for a wide variety of patrons. This venue is perfect for family outings, date nights, company parties or even just watching the game. Let’s not forget about the entire second section which features twelve immaculate bowling lanes, several lounge areas and a private room to be reserved for any kind of party.
Typically, a bowling alley menu consists of some 2.00 nachos, a day-old corn dog, and maybe if you’re at a ritzy joint, some overly-salted cold pretzels. However, Tavern+Bowl is NOT your typical bowling alley. Their gourmet scratch kitchen, andgluten-free, paleo, vegetarian and vegan options keep bowlers coming back…just for the food.
From the salad menu, you have to try the Farmers Market Burrata, a vegetarian dish made with burrata cheese, heirloom tomatoes topped with basil puree, and served with grilled roasted garlic bread. For all you meat lovers out there, try the Filet Mignon Steak Tacos. These are, to put it simply, gluten-free magic.
They are made with chimichurri-marinated grilled steak with avocado, relish, and cotija cheese over corn tortillas, and served with fire-roasted corn and black bean salsa. The menu ranges from your typical bar food such as nachos and wings, to pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and even dessert! Everything is prepared fresh, and can be ordered in the restaurant or in the bowling alley.
They also have an amazing happy hour menu Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by on Tuesdays, and you can enjoy their incredible Taco Tuesday Special, where you can order delicious street tacos for 2.00, a beer for 2.50 or tequila for 3.00. Taco Tuesdays at Tavern+Bowl is the place to be.
Also, you should check out their delicious Sunday brunch menu. They have delicious breakfasts like their breakfast burrito, made with pulled pork, potatoes, scrambled eggs, charred guajillo salsa, and cotija cheese wrapped in a warm flour tortilla, topped with chipotle aioli drizzle, avocado and fresh cilantro… Is it Sunday yet?
Whether the occasion is breakfast, drinks, dinner, or even just to let off some steam in the bowling alley, stop by Tavern+Bowl for top-of-the-line food and fun. It’s also the perfect destination experience if you’re visiting San Diego with the kids.
It’s a one-stop place to spend the afternoon or evening having fun and dining on delicious food, all without breaking the bank. As far as I’m concerned, Tavern+Bowl is bowling to perfection.
