Explore the San Diego Zoo
Located in beautiful Balboa Park, The San Diego Zoo is a fun outing for the whole family. What a treasure we have in our own backyard! It’s amazing that in such a built up part of San Diego is a zoo with over 4000 animals in 1000 acres.
First thing you need to know is that they have FREE PARKING!!! I would suggest getting there early to get a spot because it will fill up fast – especially on weekends. Also, there is really only one entrance in and out, so it could be extremely frustrating with excited little ones in the backseat as you fight for a spot.
Remember to bring the sunscreen and put on your walking shoes! This park is huge and very spread out. Be prepared for many steep hills as well. (It’s a great workout though.) The park is separated by zones, so make sure you pick up a map when you walk in to help you navigate. Choose between the “Lost Forest” to see the Tiger Exhibit, Monkeys and Gorillas, “Panda Canyon” or “Elephant Odyssey” to see these magnificent animals up close.
The park is great for families and kids of all ages, but I think specially made for kids in the 5-11 age range. If you are bringing children younger than that, when you walk in make a left into the Discovery Outpost. There is a petting zoo and a play area that the kids will love. If you want a more leisurely way to view the animals, take advantage of the bus tour that goes around the entire park.
Make sure you visit their website at www.sandiegozoo.com for all the exciting upcoming events and special exhibits.
