The San Diego Museum of Man happens to be located in the elaborate, masterfully architected California Tower which holds the record for being mentioned more often than any other San Diego building in studies of American Architecture.
Its Spanish Colonial and Mission Style Architecture make this 200 foot tower a San Diego landmark building located right in the heart of Balboa Park. Originally constructed for the 1915-1916 Panama-California Expansion, the California Tower is now home to the San Diego Museum of Man, the city’s only museum dedicated to anthropology.
With anthropological exhibits about people and places throughout the Americas and all over the world, the main focus of the museum is to create and display the dynamic and educational value of anthropology and inspire human connections in today’s culture. By reflecting on our place in the world and understanding the place of others, we can learn how to build a better, stronger future.
The San Diego Museum of Man is perfect place for learning and exploration on your next vacation to San Diego complete with ethnographic collections, exhibits on ancient Egypt, Footsteps Through Time: 4 Million Years of Human Evolution, Kumeyaay: Native Californians, Maya: Heart of Sky, Heart of Earth and a Children’s Discovery Center.
While visiting the San Diego Museum of Man, be encouraged to try new things, push boundaries and be fearless while actively participating in museum exhibits and activities.
