When you’re looking for some of the best food in San Diego, we know just the place – Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern. Located on the Point Loma Harbor, Jimmy’s, also called JFAT, is known for their creative cocktails, craft beers, harbor views and unique take on tasty American classics.
You can choose to dine inside in their spacious dining area, or have a cold one at the bar to watch the game. I personally love sitting out on their waterfront patio for a Sunday brunch or evening happy hour. They offer outdoor heating and fire pits so when the sun goes down you can fend off the evening chill while you eat.
They have a varied menu of American regional classics featuring popular dishes from around the country but with their own artisanal flair. Start off with a tasty appetizer like their famous Buttermilk & Beer Battered Onion Rings with house made chipotle ketchup, or their warm house made Salt and Pepper Potato Chips with bleu cheese dipping sauce and scallions.
You’ll also find such menu offerings as the mouth-watering Cowboy Burger, the delicious French dip sandwich made with certified Angus roast beef, or the filling Grilled Mahi Mahi with spinach, mashed potatoes and shrimp creole sauce, which you can enjoy with your favorite beer or craft cocktail on their outdoor patio.
If you’re looking for lighter fare, try one of their fresh salads such as the Harvest Salad, with greens, avocado, tomatoes, garbanzo beans, corn, cheddar cheese, bleu cheese, beans and deviled eggs. Or, you can go with the Grilled Santa Fe Caesar Salad, which comes with romaine lettuce, corn, diced tomatoes, avocado, and green chile Caesar dressing.
Stop by for brunch and wake up with a JFAT Famous Bloody Mary while enjoying their Short Rib Hash made with potatoes, onions, poached egg and béarnaise sauce. Or, you can go with the Sunday Scramble, which is made with spinach, forest mushrooms, tomato, cheddar cheese, avocado, and bacon. They’re the perfect fill-me-up before you head out to explore San Diego!
