Dining out in San Diego is much like a Rubix cube with many ways to spin it, but sometimes you can never come to a conclusion.
With a plethora of eclectic tastes, varieties of cuisine and communities in San Diego to choose from, finding best tacos, beer and sports bars can either be fun or daunting. So what do most people want in a restaurant? As an avid eater of food, I enjoy a casual, lively atmosphere and a menu with options.
The Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill in Mission Beach is THAT place. They offer a great view, and the Pacific Ocean and Belmont Amusement park is just a stone’s throw away. Plus they have bragging rights for creating the best taco in San Diego. They’ve won numerous awards for their TKO taco while continuing their reign across the board. The Sandbar has been picking up their taco game and making big waves at several food events across San Diego too.
Yes, Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill has amazing tacos (believe me, I’ve tried them!), but they also have a well-rounded food and drink menu, a killer happy hour and several TVs to catch a game, hailing this establishment as a Boise State Broncos bar.
But it’s not just for Boise State fans, it’s a casual sports bar to grab small bites and a beer with friends, great for families or to go on a first date.
The Sandbar offers everything you need in a sports bar. Tourists and locals alike enjoy their fun, laid-back atmosphere all year long.
Now, let’s get down to why you’re really here. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner, chock full of great items to please any palate. Breakfast is simple and to the point, with favorites like Hand-dipped French Toast, Huevos Rancheros and a variety of scrambles.
Lunch and dinner is off the charts, but let’s talk appetizers first. They offer the perfect selection of starters, from Carne Asada Tots and the Classic Quesadilla to the Mini Corndogs and Crispy Calamari. But the Chilean mussels? Wow, they were fantastic!
This was my first time trying Chilean black mussels and they take the cake as some of the best I’ve ever had.
These hardy mussels were soaked in a mildly spiced chipotle cream sauce and roasted garlic cloves — the perfect flavor combination.
The soft pretzels with queso dip were fulfilling, and the nachos were a mighty mountain of fresh ingredients with their signature spicy guacamole.
Sandbar is known for their taco selection, but most notably for their award-winning, TKO style tacos with tobacco onions and beer-brined escabeche slaw. They even kept the non-meat eaters in mind with the Fried Avocado taco. And if you’re not feeling the tacos, you’ll find the 10-oz burger tantalizing. You can have also have it TKO style or go simple with the Western Burger loaded with pulled pork and spicy barbecue sauce.
Whatever it is you’re craving, Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill can fulfill any appetite. Drop in for a burger, a locally brewed craft beer, sizzling tacos or just catch a game with friends. Just be sure to arrive in style in your best flip flops and board shorts. This is your locals bar, so if you want to do it like the San Diegans do, come by Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill, where everybody fits in.
