Looking for Steakhouses in Downtown San Diego?
If you’re on the hunt for exceptional steakhouses in downtown San Diego, you won’t have to look far.
Set in the heart of Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, Greystone Steakhouse has an incredibly classic and elegant ambiance paired with delicious food and a prime location.
From the moment I stepped inside, I felt a cozy warmth thanks to their red and golden lighting.
I couldn’t have been happier as our hostess led me and my guest up the gorgeous staircase to sit overlooking the balcony. Perfect! I love to people watch as I eat. As we took our seats, I felt like I could breathe deep and spread my foodie wings in the spacious dining area.
We sat looking over the menu, our mouths watering at all of the delicious options. Our waiter greeted us with a big smile as he poured our water, making us feel comfortable. We were also welcomed by Sara, the manager and director of operations at Greystone, who helped us choose the right food and wine selections.
First up was a light and invigorating champagne cocktail with lemon rind and a sugar cube in the bottom. The light citrus taste with bubbles was a great palate cleanser before our meal.
Then, we had a nice toast for our ladies night out and we were ready to dive into our appetizers – the Pork Belly with Red Wine sauce and the Calamari and Shrimp with Garlic Aioli. We also tried the Wild Boar Sausage.
As soon as they came, we knew we were in for a treat. The pork belly is so delicious and tender, it’s almost indescribable.
This meat is cooked to melt like butter in your mouth. With the red wine sauce, it’s something a foodie dreams of! The calamari and shrimp dipped in the garlic aioli were also yummy, and the wild boar was the perfect pairing of sweet and salty.
We took a breather, decided to sip on our champagne and started asking Gabriel, our waiter, some questions about the wine selection, which is from all over the world. They have around 4000 bottles in-house, and you can see them stored all around the restaurant in huge glass cases, which is a lovely addition to the décor.
I must say, I was impressed to see Sara giving every table her full attention and lovely charisma. She definitely made the right call when she ordered the Wagyu beef and Buffalo Tenderloin for us, which made for an interesting meal!
The Wagyu beef is a special type of marbled steak, and the only place in San Diego you can find it is at Greystone. I ventured into the unknown and tried some black truffle shavings on top of the steak, which made for a rich and robust earthy taste. The meat itself was incredibly juicy due to the marbling.
The Buffalo Tenderloin was a completely different experience. I was amazed at the texture of the meat. It was like velvet inside, easy to slice, and full of hearty and luscious flavor.
At this point, my friend Aly and I were on cloud nine from all the delicious food, but we were ready when the desserts came.
We tried the Dark Chocolate Lave cake accompanied by Dark Chocolate Gelato, both incredibly decadent, and I couldn’t wait to slide my fork down the beautiful Tiramisu.
One creamy bite after another was heaven in all its delectable glory. The desserts are all made in-house, and topped off an outstanding and totally impressive night.
From the first bite to the last, our dining experience was unforgettable. When you’re in the mood for delicious food served in a great location with a cozy atmosphere, pay a visit to Greystone Steakhouse in the Gaslamp Quarter. You won’t regret it!
