Give yourself every excuse to taste Harvey’s Lake Tahoe’s signature menu with tableside service at The Sage Room. Starting now, this year-long anniversary celebration includes a 70th Anniversary special menu featuring entertaining table-side preparations. The selections are delicious, and the show is most memorable.
The Sage Room at Harvey’s has been a Tahoe landmark since opening in the summer of 1947 and is likely the oldest, continuous-running restaurant operation of its kind in Northern Nevada. As you will see in its elegant decor, this Western-themed steakhouse is a popular favorite among locals and guests alike. The original bar and hand-hewn beams were part of the original log cabin that housed Harvey’s Wagon Wheel casino when it first opened in 1944. Original Native American lamps that were a gift to casino founder Harvey Gross from the local Washoe Tribe still hang from those beams.
And, to no surprise, the ambiance matches the dining excellence. Starting with unique appetizers, I enjoyed the sautéed frog legs provencale. Classic steakhouse favorites also include blackened pan seared Ahi tuna, oysters Rockefeller, Maryland lump crab cakes and jumbo sea scallops. Entrees include filet of beef wellington, chateaubriand-bouquetiere for two, roasted rack of lamb persille, seared antelope tenderloin and my favorite, the “signature” steak Diane. Impressively, this course is filet mignon flambéed tableside with brandy, mushrooms, tomatoes, and garlic and rice pilaf. To complete this entertaining foodie experience, order the cherries jubilee prepared tableside. I’m sure the brandy aroma will entice the adjacent table to follow suit. Finish with the classic café diablo — I could have mistaken the preparation as my very own fire show (ask for Ozzie!).
My recommendation is to over indulge and try everything on the menu, but for those looking to get a taste of this dining experience, dine from The Sage Room 70th Anniversary Special Menu. You’ll enjoy a three-course meal for an incredible price of $70 per person, leaving room to finish with the classic café diablo. No matter how you choose to dine, The Sage Room doesn’t disappoint. Bon appétit!
